BIBLICAL CHRISTIANITY

Many people ask my wife, children and I, “What church do you go?” That question has always saddened me. The reason why that question has always saddened me is because it shows not only how Biblically illiterate the majority of professing believers are today, but it also shows how their pastors and teachers are not teaching them one of the crucial truths of God’s word. The fact is, no one goes to a church, Biblically speaking, as it is the Christian individuals themselves that make up the true church and not some religious building.

While the above question has always saddened me, there is another question that literally makes me cringe. I am often asked, “What kind of Christian are you?” That is a question that makes me want to weep as it not only shows that the individual asking the question has not been taught Biblical truth, but that there is a great possibility that he or she is also on their way to hell and not a true Christian whatsoever. The fact is, there is only one type of Christian and that is the Biblical Christian, or truly born again believer and servant of the Lord, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

The majority of people in today’s world believe that there are Baptist Christians and Catholic Christians, Presbyterian Christians and Methodist Christians. However this is a grave error. There will be no section for Baptists and another section for Presbyterians, let alone a section for sprinklers and another for dunkers! There will simply be a New Jerusalem filled with true Biblical Christians and a hell filled with everyone else.

The Lord Jesus Christ said in John 3: 3, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Jesus then stated in John 3: 5-6, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

It is obvious what Jesus meant by the above, even if professing Christians and cultic pastors alike butcher this verse and put their own “private interpretation” on it. Jesus stated that a man must (not should or could) be born again. He then stated that a man must be born of water and the Spirit and then stated that, “that which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit”. Obviously, Jesus was stating that just as a man is first born of the flesh (through water) he must also later be born again spiritually (through the Spirit), if he wants to enter the kingdom of God.

Furthermore, this “born again” experience is not hard to discern. One should not be able to say, “I’m not sure if I’ve been born again spiritually” just as one should not be able to say, “I’m not sure if I was ever born physically”. Being born again spiritually is just as factual, discernible and undeniable as being born for the first time physically.

Jesus also stated in John 14: 15, If ye love me, keep my commandments and in 1 John 2: 4 it states, He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. Many people will read these words of Christ and foolishly say, I keep the Ten Commandments, yet they will forget the fact that there are over 1,000 New Testament commandments, the vast majority of which they break on a daily basis.

You see, there is only one type of Christian and that is the Biblical Christian, the Christian that is truly born again through repenting of his sins and putting his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Christian that truly loves Christ by obeying Him, the true Christian!

Here at the Biblical Christian Sports Blog we profile professing true Christian athletes and even comment on their lifestyles many times. However, please understand that many of these professing Christian athletes may be nothing more then wolves in sheep’s clothing and may in fact, bring shame on the body of Christ in the future. We cannot be 100% sure that any of these athletes are true Biblical Christians and must simply take their word for it, until their actions prove otherwise. However, always remember, it is Jesus Christ that you are called to follow, obey and look up to, not some athlete, even a professing Christian one.

Jesus Christ is a true role model for living a sinless life, not Dwight Howard for winning a slam dunk contest. Jesus Christ is a true hero for dying on the cross for your sins, not Ladainian Tomlinson for winning an M.V.P. trophy. Jesus Christ is a true miracle working savior for rising from the dead, not Lebron James for rescuing the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise from obscurity.

To put it simply, in order to be a true Christian, a Biblical Christian, you most be in love with (above your family, friends and self), and obedient to, Jesus Christ of Nazareth!
